G&E Dental. Canterbury's largest emergency dental service provider.

G&E Dental recently celebrated 6 years of service to the people of Canterbury providing general and emergency dental care. G&E Dental was set up in Rolleston in 2011 with the aim of providing after-hours general and emergency dental services for patients of Rolleston and other towns further south. G&E Dental is committed to serving those in rural and semi-rural areas of Canterbury including Ashburton, Methven, Darfield, Leeston, Lincoln, Templeton, West Melton, Springston, Fairlie, Kaiapoi, Amberley, Pegasus, Cheviot and Hanmer Springs. Most of these areas had previously had no access to locally available emergency, after hours or weekend dental services.

The service saw rapid expansion with the purpose of offering such dental services to other regions of Canterbury. "With a network of five dental practices in Rolleston, Christchurch, Rangiora, Ashburton and Methven, it has been a journey of aiming to provide dental service to the population when they need it most", says Dr. Meena Chawdhry. With her 36 years of experience as a dentist, she leads a team of 14 experienced dentists. These dentists are educated and trained in Otago NZ, the USA, the UK and India.

The practices: G&E Dental boasts of state of the art practices with digital X-Rays and modern equipment to help its dentists provide optimum service to their patients.

Services Offered: Besides urgent pain relief to both adults and children, G&E Dental practices also offer general dental services including Smile makeovers, same day Crowns, Fastbraces teeth realignment, Dental Implants, Gum Surgery, Root Canal Treatment, Wisdom teeth extractions and Teeth Whitening. “If a patient calls, we are committed to seeing them. If someone is experiencing extreme pain, then they need to be seen urgently,” says Dr Chawdhry.

Patient Safety: G&E Dental takes patient safety very seriously and has put in place strict infection control and emergency safety protocols as per New Zealand Dental Council guidelines. The support staff is trained to support the dentists deal with any unexpected emergencies. All G&E Dental practice locations are equipped with Automated Electrical Defibrillators.

For the Anxious patient: Treatment is offered under all forms of sedation – oral, gas and intravenous. Dr. Chawdhry personally supervises the IV Sedation.

Adolescents and Children: G&E Dental are contracted by the District Health Board to provide free dental treatment to the under 18s as per their guidelines. They also provide free emergency dental treatment to the under 13s after hours when the school dental nurse or the community dentist are not
available.

Subsidised Dental Treatment: G&E Dental practices are contracted by the CDHB to provide subsidized dental treatment for pain relief to Community Services Card holders. Free WINZ quotes are provided and necessary treatment is carried out.

Free Dental treatment: Dr. Meena Chawdhry personally provides free pain relief dental services to eligible patients who are referred by the Christchurch City Mission, Red Cross or WINZ at our Rolleston Surgery. She also does free dental work at the local Charity Hospital.

Growth for the practice has meant much less waiting and travel times for patients. Canterbury is a fast growing area. Dr Chawdhry has been a local since 2008, and is pleased to be able to employ local staff. Because of growth, we added new premises in Rolleston, at 66 Rolleston Drive while still retaining the practice at 43 Shelley street. Hence, now there are more chairs (four consultation rooms) with provision for expansion and facilities that are a match for the best in Christchurch. We are operational in Methven at our practice in the Methven Medical Centre. Next stop is Ashburton at 131 Walnut Ave.

After Hours Service: G&E Dental clinics remain open between the hours of 8am and 9pm on weekdays and between 9am and 5 pm on weekends and public holidays. The Hornby practice is open 365 days in a year. On Sundays our Hornby and Rangiora branches provide dental services. All forms of treatment are offered during these emergency hours. These include but are not restricted to treatment of toothache, surgical extraction of wisdom teeth, drainage/treatment of dental abscesses and crown, bridge and denture work.
